In the Conference on Sustainable Islamic Business and Finance, the University of Bahrain Calls for Promoting Technology in Achievement of Bahrain Vision 2030

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain has established itself as a pioneer in Islamic finance for several decades. She confirmed that Islamic finance has become essential part of the global economy and one of the most dynamic sectors.

Dr. Al-Mudhahki added that the main challenge lies in bridging the gap between theories and current practices of Islamic finance and this is why the University of Bahrain established a research center on sustainable Islamic business and finance, in partnership with the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). She referred that the University of Bahrain has supported Islamic banking through introducing bachelor’s and master’s programs in the fields of Islamic banking and finance. She indicated that graduates of bachelor’s and master’s programs of the College of Business Administration have the highest employment rate, according to a graduate survey conducted in 2018.

Dr. Al-Mudhahki made this statement during the activities of the recently held “International Conference on Sustainable Islamic Business and Finance”, organized by the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, in collaboration with the College of Business Administration, with technical support from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). in partnership with the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). A number of Academicians, graduate students, and local and international specialists in the field of Islamic banking participated in the Conference.

The Conference hosted keynote speakers, namely Omar Mustafa Ansari, Deputy Secretary-General for Accounting and Auditing at the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), and Dr. Hatem bin Mahmoud Al-Masry, Dean of the College of Business Administration.

The International Conference on Sustainable Islamic Business and Finance included several parallel meetings, to present recent developments and applications in the field of Islamic business and finance. The research papers presented in three parallel meetings addressed the topics of Islam and the global business environment, entrepreneurship and small business ownership, business ethics and social responsibility, Islamic commercial jurisprudence, Islamic accounting principles and practices, organizational culture, managing change and innovation, human resources management and workplace relations, financial markets and institutions, Islamic banking and finance, and sustainable decisions for sustainable development.
